An Adaptive E-Advertising User Model: The AEADS Approach

Authors:

Alaa A. Qaffas and Alexandra I. Cristea

Abstract: By customising advertising campaigns based on the attributes of the user, the efficacy and success of the campaign is likely to be enhanced. The most challenging yet interesting part to model is the user (or customer). This paper focuses on an automated, simple, lightweight user model, easy to integrate into an existing system (storage and operation). Accordingly, the arbitrary commercial website can acquire the ability to retrieve general data of the user and monitor the behaviour of the user during navigation session on the website. It also presents a study that assesses the effectiveness of a tool based on this model, via a trial run of a model prototype with users.

IT-enabled Management of Sharing Logistic Trucks

Authors:

Ichiro Satoh

Abstract: This paper proposes a management system for sharing trucks as cooperative logistics. To reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions resulting from transport, we should improve transport efficiency of trucks, which play an essential role as carriers in modern logistics services. We propose a language for specifying the routes of trucks and an order relation between the requirements of routes and the possible routes of trucks. The former is formulated as process calculus and the latter selects suitable trucks whose itineraries can satisfy the requirements of users and are more friendly the environment.

A Business Model Approach to Local mGovernment Applications - Mapping the Brussels Region’s Mobile App Initiatives

Authors:

Nils Walravens

Abstract: This paper uses business model theory as a framework to approach modern mobile government (mGov) applications and explore the role of public bodies within the volatile and complex mobile services sector. We propose and apply a new mapping methodology with a basis in business modelling that allows the comparison of mobile app initiatives by governments and can support the development or adjustment of a mobile strategy. We zoom in on the official applications released by different public administrations in the Capital Region of Brussels, Belgium. We find that the laggard position Brussels is currently in could be an opportunity to leapfrog in the field of mobile services, but that a focused vision, quadruple helix approach and clearly formulated mobile strategy is quintessential to achieving this.

Salt Seller - Realization of a Business Game

Authors:

Felix Kiechle, Corinna Uhr, Mario Schlereth, Yao Zhang, Leon O. Burkard, Andreas C. Sonnenbichler and Andreas Geyer-Schulz

Abstract: This paper describes the realization and implementation of a business game named Salt Seller. Salt Seller was first described by John Sterman in 2014 and implemented for the MIT Sloan School of Management. However, Sterman only provided a high-level description of Salt Seller and no low-level details about the realization or the market model were revealed. Our first aim is to fill this gap. As our second contribution introduces a generalized n-person framework for round-based games which serves as an abstract game architecture and encapsulates the round synchronization mechanisms. Utilizing this framework we provide a detailed view on a possible model of the market mechanisms for Salt Seller. We describe all the market functions which are needed to calculate the game outputs in each period. Our work aims to improve decision making in management and to support teaching. To support this third goal we implemented the game using modern web technologies allowing us to use the game in students’ lessons at the KIT. All input and output parameters of every round are stored in a database for later analysis of the players’ behaviour. Generally, our implementation demonstrates how general round-based multi-player games can be realized in a browser, our architecture supports various other 2-player round-based games.

Supporting Chinese Farmers with ICT-based Information Services - An Analysis of Service Models

Authors:

Yun Zhang, Yanqing Duan and Yanan Hu

Abstract: Over the last three decades, China’s agriculture sector has been transformed from the traditional to modern agriculture practice through the effective deployment of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Information processing and dissemination have played a critical role in this transformation process. However, there are very limited publications regarding the China’s success and lessons learned in utilising ICTs to support Agriculture development and transformation. This paper aims to contribute to a better understanding on how different ICT-based information service models are designed and adopted in China; and to share the knowledge and experience in applying emerging ICTs in disseminating agriculture information to farmers to improve productivity and economic, social and environmental sustainability. The paper reviews and analyses the China’s agricultural information service systems and models. Seven ICTbased information dissemination models are identified and discussed. Successful cases are presented to demonstrate the impacts of different service models. The findings provide a useful direction for researchers and practitioners in developing future ICT based information processing and dissemination systems. It is hoped that this paper will also help other developing countries to learn from China’s experience and best practice in their endeavor of applying emerging ICTs in agriculture information dissemination and sharing.

A Cloud Gaming System Design Insights

Authors:

Serban Ungureanu, Andrei Panu and Lenuta Alboaie

Abstract: Cloud Gaming is a service that allows its users to run games without installing them locally. The game applications run remotely on a machine in the cloud, having the graphical output of the game compressed and sent back to the user’s machine, where it is displayed. Within this paper, we explain how this technology works. We propose a cloud gaming platform solution, called InstantPlay, that we use to emphasize both advantages and disadvantages of this technology. Furthermore, we compare InstantPlay with a well known gaming platform, OnLive. Therefore, the scope of this paper is to explain the cloud gaming technology, present our implementation, and raise public awareness on this relatively new technology.

Design and Implementation of a Workflow Oriented ERP System

Authors:

Bálint Molnár and Zsigmond Máriás

Abstract: Adaptation of enterprise resource planning systems to the frequently changing business environment and business processes require huge resources. That is why the demand was formulated for a method that enables introducing new features in software systems without any modification in program code. An adaptive ERP system cannot handle business processes and data flow as disjoint components. Therefore the proposed solution is bifocal: an adaptive ERP system with highly integrated data flow and document management. In this article design and programming challenges are shown that had to be met during the development, focusing on topics of effective data storage and queries, workflow control structures and workflow evaluation techniques, document representation and the connection of workflow and data flow.

Hyred - HYbrid Job REcommenDation System

Authors:

Bruno Coelho, Fernando Costa and Gil M. Gonçalves

Abstract: Nowadays people search job opportunities or candidates mainly online, where several websites for this purpose already do exist (LinkedIn, Guru and oDesk, amongst others). This task is especially difficult because of the large number of items to look for and manual compatibility verification. What we propose in this paper is a Hybrid Job Recommendation System that considers the user model (content-based filtering) and social interactions (collaborative filtering) to improve the quality of its recommendations. Our solution is also able to generate adequate teams for a given job opportunity, based not only on the needed competences but also on the social compatibility between their members.

An Investigation of Customers’ Loyalty to Social Commerce Websites

Authors:

Hilal Alhulail, Martin Dick and Ahmad Abareshi

Abstract: The emergence of web 2.0 has brought new applications which have played a significant role in extending e-commerce websites with social commerce (S-Commerce) functionality. S-Commerce is a new extension of B2C e-commerce where customers purchase products/services online with the existence of social cues in the websites (such as reviews, recommendations and sharing). There has been little research in the area of customer loyalty to S-Commerce websites. Drawing upon theories of social presence and trust; and the Delone and McLean model of information systems success, this study aims to determine what factors affect customer loyalty to S-Commerce websites and to develop a framework that helps in investigating those factors. In order to achieve this objective, a quantitative approach will be employed. Data will be collected from S-Commerce users in Australia via survey. Analysis will be performed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). This study will contribute to the S-Commerce literature through a theoretical framework that shows how the loyalty of customers can be generated in S-Commerce websites. In addition, it is expected that this study will help businesses to have understanding of how to retain their customers which will result in higher profits.

Meta-modelling the Strategic Alignment Model for Aligning Information Systems Support to Specific Application Domains

Authors:

Oscar Avila and Virginie Goepp

Abstract: In the current competitive worlwide market, Information Systems (IS) are today necessaries in order to support specific application domains or business areas that can give a strategic advantage to organizations. In this context, IS alignment that exists when the IS and business goals and activities are in concordance, becomes crucial. Several approaches have been proposed for building IS alignment. However, for aligning IS support to specific application domains it is necessary to deal with their specific characteristics. Reviewing the literature, IS alignment approaches addressing these specific characteristics have been proposed by extending the Strategic Alignment Model (SAM) (Henderson and Venkatraman, 1993). Nevertheless, means for building new models from the SAM constitutive elements have not been proposed yet. To cope with this lack, we propose two metamodels: the SAM static view metamodel and the SAM dynamic view metamodel. The instantiation of these metamodels enables the build up of new models addressing the alignment of IS support to specific application domains.

Surveillance Camera System Balancing Privacy Protection and Effective Surveillance Image Use

Authors:

Kent Kobayashi, Masaki Inamura, Kitahiro Kaneda, Keiichi Iwamura and Isao Echizen

Abstract: Privacy protection has been attracting considerable attention in recent years. Several instances of surveillance video recordings of famous people in public stores being uploaded to the Internet have been reported. Such instances of privacy infringement have become increasingly concerning. A simple solution to this problem is to obscure the facial features of individuals being recorded in surveillance camera systems. However, in some cases where surveillance camera recordings are required, such as criminal investigations, the solution fails. Therefore, we propose a new surveillance camera system that balances the requirements of privacy protection and those of cases in which unobscured images are required. Further, we present the protocol of the proposed system and evaluate the security of the system against attacks.

Measurement Framework for Business Process Outsourcing to the Cloud

Authors:

Mouna Rekik, Khouloud Boukadi and Hanene Ben-Abdallah

Abstract: Face to the increasingly stringent business competition, small and medium sized enterprises strive to excel in the marketplace by adopting different strategies and solutions. Outsourcing their business processes to the Cloud has been among the most widely adopted strategies. Among others, enterprises outsource their related business process to improve their performance. However, this strategy is not without inconvenience especially when the decision is taken without being aware about the business process functional and non functional requirements. We focus in this paper on identifying the business process performance enhancement needs so to be able to identify requirements when outsourcing business process to the Cloud. This papers major contribution is the presentation of a measurement framework for SOA-based business process performance. The proposed framework allows firstly to identify essential metrics to monitor starting from an abstract business level. Then, identified metrics are monitored using our Business/Qos (BisQos) listener. The gathered data are then stored in a database for analysis purpose. The output of the framework specifies whether business process instances reveal a degradation of their performance caused by business metrics or by Qos metrics, in addition to the infrastructure properties supporting each web service execution.

Modelling Flexible Collaborative Process: The VCP2M Approach

Authors:

Fatma Ellouze, Mohamed Amine Chaabane, Eric Andonoff and Rafik Bouaziz

Abstract: This paper addresses the collaborative processes flexibility issue, which is an important issue in Business Process (BP) Management. Indeed, the strong competition in which organizations are involved lead them to frequently change and adapt their collaborative processes to face new client requirements or to benefit from new collaboration opportunities. More precisely, this paper proposes to adopt a version-based approach to support the modelling of flexible collaborative processes. First it introduces the VBP2M meta-model (Version of BP meta-model) supporting the modelling of flexible internal (i.e., intra-organizational) processes, and then explains how to extend it to define the VCP2M meta-model (Version of Collaborative Processes meta-model) to design flexible collaborative processes, which correspond to processes crossing the boundaries of companies. A specific case study illustrates the modelling of collaborative process versions as instances of VCP2M.

Business Process Model Matching: An Approach based on Semantics and Structure

Authors:

Lobna Makni, Nahla Zaaboub Haddar and Hanêne Ben-Abdallah

Abstract: Process model matching has recently gained increasing interest in the business process management domain. existing approaches yield a matching quality which is too low to be useful in practice. Therefore, we present in this paper a semi-automatic approach with the intervention of the user to match business process model elements based on their semantics and their structure. First, we apply a set of semantic rules to detect semantic relationships between activity labels like equivalence, subsumption and partly-correspondence. Second, we account for the structure of matched process elements to identify simple and complex correspondences between process models. We evaluate our approach using samples of process models from different universities.

Stakeholder Oriented Enterprise Architecture Modelling

Authors:

Malgorzata Pankowska

Abstract: The enterprise architecture (EA) is defined as a coherent and consistent set of principles and rules that guides system design. In the EA modelling methods, an enterprise is identified with institution, business or administrative unit, a firm or an industrialized region. Beyond that, EA can be considered as a set of organizational attributes or activities. In this paper, the human roles' approach for EA development is emphasized. The paper is to answer the question of who is the stakeholder of EA, who is competent and responsible for the EA planning and development, and what activities must be realized to achieve the EA goals. At first, the paper presents the EA as a product and a process, next the EA evaluation characteristics are discussed. Finally, the EA modelling tool, i.e., ArchiMate is applied for stakeholder role visualizaton.

GSM Model Construction from Enterprise Models

Authors:

Imen Jellali, Mounira Ben Abdallah, Nahla Zaaboub Haddar and Hanêne Ben-Abdallah

Abstract: Business process analysis is an essential tool to assess how well a business is meeting its goals. However, the process analysis phase may fail in some cases because it focuses either on the data perspective and ignores business activities, or on the functional and behavioral perspectives of the business process and overlooks the data. Indeed, traditional analysis approaches are based on models that do not represent all of these business process perspectives together. Recently, Entity-Centric Modeling has been proposed as a promising approach for the design of business processes based on so-called business entities. It aims to bring together business goals, business operations and business data in a natural way. In this paper, we propose a method to design an enterprise view based on business entities in order to bring together data and processes in a coherent and consistent way. The constructed view provides for an integrated analysis of data and processes. Our method takes as input a domain class diagram of the enterprise information system and a BPMN model representing its business process model, and it constructs a business entity model using the Guard-Stage-Milestone (GSM) language.

Enhancing Business Processes with Web 2.0 Features

Authors:

Fadwa Yahya, Khouloud boukadi, Zakaria Maamar and Hanêne Ben Abdallah

Abstract: Web 2.0 aims to support human interactions and content creation by combining information from different contributors. It can enhance business processes by improving communication, collaboration and exchange of knowledge between various participants. These benefits led to the emergence of a new form of business processes called Social Business Process (SBP). This paper provides for SBP modelling by proposing a domain-specific language (DSL) based on an extension of the standard BPMN notation to model social elements within an SBP. It is simple and yet generic thanks to the reduced number of extensions and its ability to model SBP regardless of the used Web 2.0 technology. To show the applicability of the proposed notation, we have implemented it within the BPMN2 modeller editor.

A Model of Effective IT Governance for Collaborative Networked Organizations

Authors:

Morooj Safdar, Greg Richards and Bijan Raahemi

Abstract: Inter-organizational collaboration based on the use of IT systems is now essential for organizations working as Collaborative Networked Organizations (CNOs). However, little research has been done to examine the critical success factors involved in shared IT governance among members of a CNO. Accordingly, this research develops a model of inter-organizational IT governance composed of critical success factors (CSFs) and key performance indicators (KPIs). The study defines fourteen CSFs that are classified under the main four categories of IT governance, which include strategic alignment, resource management, value delivery and risk management, and performance measurement. The main dimensions of the KPIs include consensus, alignment, accountability, trust, involvement and transparency. To validate the research model, we conduct a case study of a healthcare CNO by gathering insights from CNO participants on the importance of the proposed CSFs and performance indicators included. The findings of the research validate the importance of the CSFs but suggest that they could be ranked in order of criticality. In addition, certain CSFs were redefined based on the experience of CNO participants and questions were raised related to the context of the CNO, which influences participant perceptions, as well as to the degree of formalization noted in the CNO.

Why and How People Use Location Sharing Services on Social Networking Platforms in China

Authors:

Shang Gao and Xuemei Zhang

Abstract: Along with the development of information communication technology, there are more and more location sharing services on social networking platforms. Although China has the largest number of internet users in the world, users just started to use location sharing services in the last three years. This study aims to investigate why and how people use location sharing services on social networking platforms in China. To address this, four research questions are presented and 43 in-depth face-to-face interviews are carried out in China. Our results indicated that most users were concerned about privacy issues when they were using location sharing services on social networking platforms. Somewhat surprisingly, some of the interviewees indicated that they were not aware of the availability of the location sharing services on social networking platforms and they did not know how to use location sharing services. Furthermore, with respect to privacy protection, most interviewees indicated that WeChat did a better job than Weibo in China. Lastly, the results revealed that users wanted to use authority management to deal with private issues raised by the shared location information on social networking platforms.

SOA and EDA: A Comparative Study - Similarities, Differences and Conceptual Guidelines on their Usage

Authors:

Zaharah Allah Bukhsh, Marten van Sinderen and P. M. Singh

Abstract: Changing business requirements and new technologies trigger the business stakeholders to shift their approach from many small isolated systems to a single connected system. Integration of isolated systems is partially supported by service oriented architecture (SOA) and event driven architecture (EDA), each of which provides a set of system design guidelines. Since the purpose of both architectures is similar, the stakeholders have to make a choice on which architecture to use. The objective of this paper is to investigate the differences between SOA and EDA and provide conceptual guidelines on which architecture to consider for a given set of requirements. Apart from literature, we have considered various online resources (blogs, forums) that argue about differences and similarities between SOA and EDA. To clarify the design principles of both architectures, we present a case study of a learning management system (LMS).

SaaS Cloud Provider Management Framework

Authors:

Rima Grati, Khouloud Boukadi and Hanêne Ben-Abdallah

Abstract: The new mode of inter-enterprise cooperation based on the paradigm of composite SaaS keeps promising an ease and a fast implementation of an on demand cooperation. These collaborations called often, on demand cooperation, arising to meet a business opportunity over the Internet. However, this new paradigm poses a certain number of challenges for us. The main one is the lack of a management framework for the cloud provider while covering the different layers IaaS-PaaS-SaaS. To tackle this challenge, we propose a management framework for a cloud provider to define the typical concepts related to the intern management of a composite SaaS provider. The proposed concepts are related to the stakeholders’ definition and the presentation of the different management features to consider while specifying the dependence between the cloud layers.

Social Networking Sites: An Exploration of the Effect of National Cultural Dimensions on Country Adoption Rates

Authors:

Rodney L. Stump and Wen Gong

Abstract: This study investigates the impact of the several dimensions of Hofstede’s cultural framework on the adoption rates of social networking sites (SNS) across 30 countries, while controlling for a country’s median age, its urban population level and mobile internet penetration. Hierarchical regressions are conducted. Our findings reveal that three cultural dimensions, i.e., masculinity/femininity, uncertainty avoidance and long-term orientation, significantly impact nations’ adoption levels of SNS above and beyond the effects of median age and urban population level. While there is a growing body of literature that examines the influence of national culture on the adoption and use of a variety of high-tech innovations and services mediated by these technologies, our study is among the first to specifically relate cultural perspectives to country adoption levels of social networking sites using an array of cultural dimensions. We provide a theoretical framework and supporting empirical evidence to underscore the importance of understanding how culture impacts consumers’ SNS adoption behavior across countries. Implications from our findings, limitations and directions for future research are provided.

Abstract: We propose a copyright protection technology suitable for consumer generated media such as You Tube and CLIP. This technology realizes right succession of and edit control by the previous work’s authors. In this technology, we use a digital signature to confirm the relation between the primary and secondary authors and to determine whether the contents may be edited. We propose to apply this technology to CLIP, which is a software used to operate a pre-set character three-dimensional (3D) model of a three-dimensional computer graphics (3DCG) for creating computer animation. In addition, we provide three security methods for the proposed technologies.

Sustainable Farm System for Peri-urban Sydney SMEs

Authors:

Ana Hol

Abstract: Past studies indicate that Small to Medium farmers in peri-urban Sydney, Australia region are forced to operate in a very linear fashion and therefore are strongly dependent on a single system actor, known as the ‘Agent’ to sell their produce. This study aims to identify if and under which circumstances, Sydney farmers could have resources that would allow them to no longer have to depend upon any single system (ie. The Agent). This research identifies that in order to remove single actor dependency, the Sustainable Peri-urban Farm system, would need to allow farmers to receive inputs and feedback from both natural and manmade systems and vice versa. The well integrated, Sustainable Farm system, would create a base where farmers could receive resource and coordination instructions from the Environmental and Biological Systems while systems like Communication, Health, Market, Transport, Education and Agri-tourism Systems would help farmers support and nurture new collaborative business ventures and opportunities.

An Intelligent Tool for All-to-All Sales on the Internet - Platform for Compilation of Commercial Offers and Requests for Companies and Customers

Authors:

Radoslav Fasuga, Pavel Stoklasa and Martin Němec

Abstract: This paper deals with the issues of building an intelligent sales portal. The portal features include a price comparator, entering of individual offerings and requests for concrete and specific products and services. Product offers can be entered by choosing from predefined product options and specifications, or as new specifications. The paper describes matching of sales for new products, services and used goods. The design philosophy combines the features of product aggregators, advertising and second-hand sale systems and auctions with so-called fair direct offers in both public and anonymous offer and request proceedings. The implementation is designed for both companies presenting their products, services and requests, and ordinary customers and their individual offers and requests. The core system component is the intelligent search and offer/request matching process. The identical product-to-product matching model and searching based on product similarity is described. A model ideal product and most similar offer can be defined. The paper includes a discussion of the issue of working with a large quantity of highly structured data, their pre-processing and effective visualisation. The conclusion outlines the project ambitions in the area of building a European offer and request platform among business and customer clients.
